Role Management Guide
Manage roles, autoroles, bulk operations, hierarchy safety, and permission validation.
Overview
Lyx provides comprehensive role management tools with strong safety checks. All operations enforce Discord's role hierarchy — Lyx cannot manage roles equal to or higher than its highest role, and users cannot assign roles higher than their own highest role (except server owner).
Autoroles
Automatically assign roles to new members on join.
/autorole add role:@Verified delay:0
/autorole add role:@Member delay:3600
- role (required): Role to assign
- delay: Seconds before assigning (0 = instant, max 86400)
Multiple autoroles supported. List with /autorole list, remove with /autorole remove role:@Role.

- role (required): Target role
- target: all, bots, humans, no_roles (default: all)

Hierarchy & Safety
Discord's role hierarchy is strictly enforced:
- Lyx cannot manage roles ≥ its highest role
- Users cannot assign roles ≥ their highest role (except owner)
- Lyx cannot kick/ban/timeout users with roles ≥ its highest role
- Role position changes validated before execution
If you get "Missing Permissions" or "Hierarchy" errors:
- Move Lyx's role above the target role in Server Settings → Roles
- Ensure your role is above the target role
- Check channel permission overwrites

Dashboard Management
The Roles page (/dashboard/{guildId}/roles) provides:
- Autorole configuration with delay settings
- Searchable, sortable roles table
- Role details: color, members, position, permissions
- Create/edit/delete role modals
- Color picker with hex input
- Permission checkbox grid
- Bulk role management with confirmation
- Hierarchy warnings before dangerous operations
All changes validated server-side before execution.
Common Issues
"Missing Permissions" when adding role
Check: 1) You have Manage Roles, 2) Your role > target role, 3) Lyx's role > target role, 4) Target role not managed by integration (Twitch, etc.).
Autoroles not assigning
Check: 1) Lyx's role > autorole, 2) Lyx has Manage Roles, 3) Delay not causing confusion (wait for delay), 4) Role not managed by integration.
Can't delete role
Cannot delete: @everyone, roles ≥ Lyx's highest role, roles managed by integrations, roles with members if you lack permissions.
Bulk operations not available
Restricted to users with specific permissions configured in dashboard. Contact server owner.
