Troubleshooting

Bot is Offline or Not Responding

Symptoms

• Bot shows "Offline" in Discord member list
• Slash commands don't respond
• No reaction to messages or events

Solutions

1. Check status page: Visit lyx.lol/status for service health
2. Check Discord status: Visit discordstatus.com for platform issues
3. Verify bot in server: Ensure Lyx appears in your server's member list
4. Re-invite bot: Kick and re-invite using the invite link
5. Check permissions: Ensure Lyx has required permissions (see Required Permissions)

Commands Not Appearing

Symptoms

• Typing / shows no Lyx commands
• Commands work in some channels but not others
• New commands not showing after update

Solutions

1. Wait for propagation: Global slash commands can take up to 1 hour to appear
2. Check scope: Ensure invite included applications.commands scope
3. Channel permissions: Lyx needs "Use Slash Commands" in the channel
4. Force sync: Bot owner can use /lyx sync (owner only)
5. Try /help: Lists available commands if any are registered

Missing Permissions Errors

Symptoms

• "Missing Permissions" or "Missing Access" errors
• Commands fail with permission denied
• Bot can't perform actions it should

Solutions

1. Check Lyx's role position: Server Settings → Roles → Drag Lyx role ABOVE roles it manages
2. Verify your permissions: You need the same permission you're trying to use (e.g., Ban Members to ban)
3. Check hierarchy: Cannot act on users with roles ≥ your highest role (except server owner)
4. Channel overwrites: Check channel-specific permission overwrites
5. Required permissions: See Required Permissions

Dashboard Login Issues

Symptoms

• Redirect loops after Discord OAuth
• "Invalid session" or "Unauthorized" errors
• Server selector shows "No servers found"

Solutions

1. Clear cookies: Clear cookies for lyx.lol, api.lyx.lol, help.lyx.lol
2. Use incognito: Test in private/incognito window
3. Check permissions: You need "Manage Server" on a server with Lyx installed
4. Re-authorize: Logout and login again
5. Check bot presence: Ensure Lyx is in the server you're trying to manage

Settings Not Saving

Symptoms

• Changes revert after refresh
• Error toasts appear on save
• Loading spinner hangs indefinitely

Solutions

1. Check error toasts: Read the error message for details
2. Verify bot online: Settings require bot to be connected
3. Check permissions: Lyx needs permissions for the feature you're configuring
4. Some settings need restart: Dashboard will show notice if restart required
5. Clear cache: Hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R)
6. Try API directly: Check api.lyx.lol/health

Missing Channel/Role Access

Symptoms

• Channel/role selectors show "No access"
• Can't select channels for welcome/logs
• Role selector empty or missing roles

Solutions

1. Lyx needs View Channel: For channel selectors, Lyx must have "View Channel" in target channel
2. Lyx needs Manage Roles: For role selectors, Lyx needs "Manage Roles" and role must be below Lyx's highest role
3. Channel not deleted: Verify target channel still exists
4. Role not managed: Integration-managed roles (Twitch, etc.) can't be selected

Auto-Moderation Issues

False Positives

• Increase max_messages or time_window for spam
• Exempt active channels (#bot-commands, #spam)
• Adjust similarity threshold for duplicates
• Use word filter regex carefully: (?i)badword for case-insensitive

Rules Not Triggering

• Check master auto-mod toggle is ON
• Verify specific rule is enabled
• Check channel/role not exempted
• Ensure Lyx has permissions (Manage Messages, Moderate Members)
• Test with /automod status and dashboard test panel

Actions Not Executing

• Delete → needs Manage Messages
• Warn/Timeout → needs Moderate Members
• Alert → needs Send Messages in log channel

Welcome Messages Not Sending

Checklist

1. Welcome enabled: /welcome setup shows enabled
2. Channel exists and Lyx has Send Messages + Embed Links
3. Channel not in logging ignored channels
4. Bot not rate limited (check status page)
5. Test with /welcome test
6. Placeholder spelling: {user} not {username}
7. Embed color format: #7c5cff (with #)

Logging Not Working

Checklist

1. Master logging enabled
2. Specific event category enabled (e.g., message_deletes)
3. Log channel not in ignored channels
4. Triggering role not in ignored roles
5. Lyx has Send Messages + Embed Links in log channel
6. Log channel not deleted
7. Test with /logs test

Missing Content

• Message deletes: requires "Read Message History" permission
• Old messages: Lyx caches recent messages only
• Attachments: enable "Include Attachments" in settings
